Meet the Skipper

Captain Bill Hanlon has been sailing for over 20 years and has over 50,000 miles of coastal and offshore sailing experience. He has sailed from the northern latitudes of Alaska's Glacier Bay to the tropics of the South Pacific. In the 1980's he captained a Rawson 30 Vanellus from the Pacific Northwest down the west coast of North America to Mexico, Hawaii, and did a solo crossing from Kauai to Oregon. In the 90's with son Walker, Schooner Seawanhaka sailed a 3-year loop down the west coast, thru Central America, the Galapagos Islands, French Polynesia, Hawaii and home to Victoria and Friday Harbor.


Bill is a former Oregon District Attorney from Bend. His son Walker graduated from Stanford University in 2004, worked for an economic conslulting firm in Washington D.C. for 2 years, and is now a graduate student at Columbia University in New York City. Bill is currently pursuing his dream of a circumnavigation. Asked why, he responds, " It always sounded like a good round figure."
